Only a day after crossing the 80,000 COVID-19 case mark, India recorded 88,988 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, the highest since September 26.
The surge in infections during the pandemic’s second wave in the country has been fast, with daily cases crossing the 80,000 mark only 20 days after crossing the 20,000 mark. The daily case tally surged past 20,000 on March 12 and hit the 80,000 mark on April 1.
The surge has been three-fold faster than the corresponding rise in the first wave. During the first wave, the tally first crossed 20,000 on June 27, 2020 while it reached 80,000 on August 30, after a gap of 64 days. The daily death toll remained above 400 for the third consecutive day, with 434 deaths recorded on Friday… (ET Healthworld – TNN, April 3, 2021)
